Due to the overwhelming success of donations received ( over $14,000), the school established the Brandon Spight Scholarship. The scholarship has assisted a student attending U of D since the fall of 2007. This accomplishment led Brandon’s parents to believe that this endeavor could be continued in a broader manner.
Hence, the reason for creating the Brandon Lee Spight Memorial Foundation (BLSMF), which is regulated by the specific language under Section 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) of the Internal Revenue Code.
At the time of his death, in lieu of flowers, his parents asked supporters to donate money to his school. We are providing an educational opportunity to youth from diverse cultures and lower economic backgrounds who perpetuate the legacy of Brandon Lee Spight by demonstrating character, integrity, promise, commitment, and dedication to excellence in academics, athletics, and personal behavior.
The BLSMF recognizes and supports such youth through various avenues of resources and assistance to enable them to realize their potential for self-empowerment as established by Brandon Spight.
